What Andarine is

Andarine is the development name commonly associated with S-4, a nonsteroidal androgen receptor modulator. Its research question is whether effects in muscle and bone can be separated from effects in other androgen-responsive tissues. Selectivity describes a comparison under experimental conditions; it does not mean that other organs or the hormonal system are unaffected.

What the named research shows

Gao and colleagues, Endocrinology (2005; DOI 10.1210/en.2005-0572), studied S-4 in castrated male rats. They reported changes in muscle, bone and pituitary hormones. This was an animal model of androgen deficiency, not a trial in athletes.

Why it is discussed in sport

Interest in andarine in bodybuilding usually centres on muscle retention and a leaner appearance. The cited experiment does not establish either outcome during a calorie deficit in trained people. Restoring tissue after experimentally induced hormone loss and adding useful performance in a healthy athlete are different questions. There is no basis here for ranking andarine against approved treatments or treating visual changes as evidence of better health.

Risks and unresolved questions

The rat study also found suppression of LH and FSH, making endocrine effects part of the research signal rather than a side issue. It does not establish a human eye-safety profile or quantify visual adverse effects. Forum reports cannot supply a reliable frequency or prove reversibility. A missing reliable human safety estimate is a gap, not reassurance. General SARM warnings additionally include liver injury.

Reading product claims alongside evidence

A research publication and a retail product answer different questions. The image shows the actual source packaging for recognition. It does not confirm contents, purity, sterility or suitability. A particular batch would require traceable sampling, identity testing and appropriate analytical documentation. A percentage printed on a label alone does not replace that documentation.

This overview separates observed results from extrapolation to athletes. It provides no use protocol. Potential benefits are described as studied signals or as claims in sporting discussions; missing long-term data are not treated as reassurance. New publications can change the assessment. The draft still requires editorial review before publication.

Frequently asked questions

Is Andarine actually a SARM?

Investigational nonsteroidal SARM. Classification follows pharmacology rather than the name of a supplier category.

References[1]
Do the cited studies establish a safe sports benefit?

A rat muscle endpoint is not a human performance result. Study populations, endpoints and observation periods limit the conclusion. A photograph or trade name does not resolve those gaps.
