Identity and mechanism

YK-11 is a steroidal research compound with androgen-receptor-modulating activity. Its structure distinguishes it from nonsteroidal SARMs such as Ostarine. The common sporting label SARM is therefore less informative than a clear description of the molecule and the experiments used to study it.

What the research measured

Kanno and colleagues reported follistatin-related effects in C2C12 mouse muscle cells in Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin in 2013. A cultured-cell response can help formulate a biological hypothesis. It cannot establish how an intact human organism absorbs the compound, what tissue exposure occurs, or whether muscle performance improves.

Sporting claims and limitations

The popular description of YK-11 as a proven myostatin blocker goes beyond that experiment. Changes in cell differentiation and follistatin signalling are not a demonstration of safe whole-body myostatin inhibition. Human endocrine, liver, cardiovascular and reproductive effects cannot be quantified from the cited cell work. Combining it with RAD-140 would add another untested question rather than resolve those gaps.
